Technique

The Socket by Derma technique belongs to the broader field of guided bone regeneration (GBR) techniques and can be classified as a socket preservation procedure.

In simple terms, it consists of placing a bone scaffold inside the alveolar defect and a heterologous dermal membrane (Derma) to cover the scaffold, aiming to proactively promote the maintenance of the bone volume necessary for prosthetically guided implant placement.

Volumetric preservation of bone and connective tissues of the post-extraction socket avoids, or at least reduces, bone augmentation procedures in subsequent surgical phases.

Furthermore, maintaining an adequate amount of peri-implant keratinized tissue, in light of scientific evidence from recent years, contributes to the stabilization of the crestal bone level around the implant and reduces the risk of peri-implantitis.
